My sister! She was just hired and selected from a highly qualified group of candidates for a very unique job with close to a 6 figure salary. She got the job even though she did not have as many degrees or years of experience as the other applicants. Her thruthfulness, authenticity, caring, follow through, honesty, presence, smarts, integrity, ooze out of her every pore. She keeps her word, even when it is inconvenient. She does not cut corners. She places the best interest of others alongside her own. She speaks her truth in spite of the consequences; and, no surprise, these consequences are very often positive.
Moral of the story: Who you are shows up in all arenas of life, you can’t hide you. If you are discouraged it shows. If you are upbeat, hopeful, confident, that too comes through. If it is a job you want, practice interviewing with someone who will give you honest feedback. Ask how you are coming accross, what signals you are giving out. Above all, continue to align who you are at all levels, thoughts, feelings, actions, body, mind, soul – a sure ticket to a successful future whatever choices you make.

I was talking to a nun friend of mine. She asked me how I was doing and mentioned that a 98 year old fellow nun said to her: “when someone asks you how you are doing, say fine, fine, fine, three times”. My nun friend remarked: “you know, sometimes life can be hard, and this is one way we encourage each other”. It made me smile and think of the many work place water cooler conversations I have heard, expressing proverbial “ain’t it aweful” sentiments. What conversations do you have at your workplace water cooler, wherever this may be? Who encourages you in your life?

Lets say you have a job. You like it although at times you have thought of quitting and moving on to something else. Suddenly you get a substantial raise. Something changes. You are now on task, focused, committed to results, you view your co-workers in a different light. You feel self-confident. Wow. What if there was no raise and you decided to be like that any way? Try it and see what happens.

Think deeply, make a plan, then think again. Now let go. Let fresh air into your brain cells. When a new idea wants to come in, it needs space. Have you ever had the experience that when doing something totally unrelated to the problem you are trying to solve, a brilliant solution or thought just drops in.

What would this look like? Feel like? How would your results change? Are you holding on to the ways that are familiar yet not helpful? Try grace and ease. Simply stand in a different place inside of yourself.
